Message from the Chair of Governors
Hello and welcome to the governors’ page of the High Lawn School website.
As governors, we are proud of our school; the children work hard and are very well behaved, but they are also recognised as being individuals and given plenty of opportunities to have fun. The teaching staff work very hard preparing and delivering a broad and balanced curriculum, one that is unique to High Lawn, whilst also giving the children the care, guidance and support they need. Other staff members help teach the children in and out of classroom, deliver intervention sessions, lead outdoor learning and generally ensure that everything runs smoothly! They also deal with the bumped heads and grazed knees!
What we do:
High Lawn's Full Governing Board is made up of 12 governors. There are a number of different types of governor: Parent, Staff, Co-opted and Local Authority.
We are responsible for the conduct of the school and have to ensure that the education provided, and the way in which the children, staff and parents are treated, is in accordance with the law and with the various regulations laid down by the authorities. But that does not mean we try to interfere with the day-to-day running of the school; our role is that of, as they say, a ‘critical friend’. So we ask for reports on how literacy and other subjects are being taught and how this is reflected in the children’s progress; we ensure that every subject is taught for at least the minimum required hours; we set aside funding in the budget for new projects such as the new classrooms that were added a few years ago.
The Full Governing Board meets regularly throughout the year, normally three times, once per term. We also sit on various committees: Teaching and Learning, Personnel and Finance and Premises.
If you have any suggestions or queries, or would like to enquire about becoming a governor at High Lawn, please contact the main office at school and leave a message for me with your contact details.
Rachael Storey.
